Q: When is the 4th of July and its associated activities, like the parade and fireworks?

A: The 4th of July events take place on the 4th itself. If the parade cannot be held due to inclement weather, it's canceled. If the 4th falls on a Sunday, the Parade will be held on July 3rd at 10 am.  If the fireworks cannot be held due to inclement weather, they will take place the next night; past that, they are canceled. Q: What accommodations, lodging, camping, and rental opportunities are available in the area?

Q: What other services, such as restaurants, art galleries, antique shops, gift shops marinas, boating supplies, and fishing supplies, are available in the area?

A: Please see our Member Listing page for a list of all our members organized by category, which provides a view all the many businesses, organizations, and services available.


Q: Is camping allowed on Crystal Lake or Lake Michigan?

A: Sorry. not in the immediate Frankfort-Elberta area. But nearby Platte River Campground and DH Day Campground in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore both put you within easy walking distance of Lake Michigan. Q: What golf courses are available in the area?

A: There are over 19 fun and challenging golf courses nearby.


Q: When is the Frankfort Craft Fair, the Elberta Art & Craft Fair, and/or the Frankfort August Art Fair?

A: The Frankfort Craft Fair is always the 3rd Saturday in June, the Elberta Art & Craft Fair is always the 3rd Saturday in July, and the Frankfort August Art Fair is always the 3rd Saturday in August. Please our Calendar of Events page for specific dates for these and other local events throughout the year.


Q: What activities are there for younger children?

A: We have many playgrounds and parks scattered throughout the area. We have literally miles of beach on Lake Michigan at both Elberta and Frankfort, as well as Frankfort's public beach on Crystal Lake. There's a historical museum in nearby Benzonia. Gwen Frostic Prints is fun to visit with its nature theme inside and out. And nearby Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, (the world's largest moving sand dunes) has the biggest "sand box" anyone could ever dream of! Q: I hear there's great fishing of all kinds in your area; how can I find out more information?

A: Contact the folks at the Frankfort Tackle Box, and see the Benzie County Area Fishing Report, offered by them.


Q: What bike trails do you have in the area?

A: We have the Frankfort-Elberta Beach-to-Beach Trail and the Betsie Valley Trail. The Beach-to-Beach Trail is 4.2 miles long trail connecting the beaches of Elberta and Frankfort and paved from the Lake Michigan Beach in Frankfort to the town of Elberta. In Elberta, the Beach-to-Beach Trail it connects to the 18 mile long Betsie Valley Trail which goes past Railroad Point on Crystal Lake, then to Beulah, and on into Thompsonville.

Q: Everyone tells us we need to take the family and visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes; can you give me more information?

A: The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, (which happens to be the world's largest moving sand dunes) begins just a few miles north of Frankfort. It has stretches 35 miles along Lake Michigan and includes the North and South Manitou Islands. It contains many outstanding natural features, such as forests, beaches, dune formations, and ancient glacial phenomena. There are museums, hiking/cross country ski trails, beaches, a huge dune climb, a lighthouse from 1871, three former Lifesaving Service/Coast Guard Stations, and an extensive rural historic farm district.
